CADSIM Plus has been used in the forest industries to study several different kinds of processes, one of which is chip and strand dry handling and sorting for manufactured wood producers. The issues included:

• Reducing chip degradation from excessive dry handling and sorting.
• Testing alternative technologies to improve yield.
• Tracking fibre value through the process to accurately account for losses due to chip degradation.

The study indicated that the costs of chip degradation were significant enough, that a capital expenditure to deploy different chip handling technologies in several plants should be considered.
